Copyright and takedown policy
Last updated 1 October 2026
Sync.Land is operated by Awen LLC. Artists upload their own music to Sync.Land and promise in our Terms of Use that they own or control it. We respect copyright and we act quickly when someone tells us that material on Sync.Land infringes their rights. This page explains how to send us a notice under the U.S. Digital Millennium Copyright Act (17 U.S.C. § 512), how an uploader can respond, and how we deal with repeat infringers. It applies to Sync.Land and to the other services Awen LLC operates.

Notices sent anywhere else, including to an artist directly, may not reach us in time. Questions that are not copyright notices should go to info@sync.land.
How to send a notice
Your notice must be in writing, by email to copyright@sync.land or by post to the address above, and include:
- Your physical or electronic signature. Typing your full name is enough.
- The copyrighted work you say is infringed. If there are several, a representative list is fine.
- The material on Sync.Land you say infringes, with enough detail for us to find it. The song page link (sync.land/song/...) is best.
- Your name, postal address, phone number and email address.
- A statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent or the law.
- A statement that the information in your notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are the owner or are authorized to act for the owner.
If you knowingly misrepresent that material infringes, you may be liable for damages under 17 U.S.C. § 512(f). If you are not sure whether a use infringes, please ask a lawyer first.
What happens next
When we receive a complete notice we remove or disable access to the material, usually within two business days. The track stops being available to play, license or pitch. We tell the uploader, send them a copy of your notice, and explain how to respond. If a track has already been licensed through Sync.Land, we may also tell the licensees that it has been removed.
If your notice is incomplete, we will tell you what is missing.
Counter-notice: if your music was removed by mistake
If you uploaded the material and believe it was removed because of a mistake or misidentification, you can send a counter-notice to our designated agent. It must include:
- Your physical or electronic signature.
- The material that was removed and where it appeared before it was removed.
- A statement, under penalty of perjury, that you have a good-faith belief the material was removed or disabled as a result of mistake or misidentification.
- Your name, address and phone number, and a statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the U.S. Federal District Court for the judicial district where your address is located or, if your address is outside the United States, for any judicial district in which Awen LLC may be found, and that you will accept service of process from the person who sent the original notice or their agent.
We send your counter-notice, including your contact details, to the person who sent the original notice. Unless they tell us within 10 business days that they have filed a court action to keep the material down, we restore it between 10 and 14 business days after we receive your counter-notice.
Repeat infringers
We end the accounts of users who repeatedly infringe. An account that receives three upheld notices within 12 months is closed. An account that knowingly uploads music belonging to someone else may be closed after a single notice. A notice withdrawn by the sender, or overturned by a counter-notice that is not followed by a court action, does not count. When an account is closed, its tracks are removed. Licenses already issued are handled as our Terms of Use and Privacy Policy describe.
Other rights
For trademark, privacy, likeness or voice claims, or anything else that is not a copyright notice, email copyright@sync.land and say what kind of claim it is. We review these by hand.
Users in the European Union and the United Kingdom
You can also email copyright@sync.land to tell us about content you believe is illegal. We review each notice, tell you what we decided, and tell the uploader why their content was restricted and how to challenge the decision.
Licensees
If a track you licensed through Sync.Land becomes the subject of a notice, keep your license certificate. We will contact you at the email on your account.
